Background:

Opened in 1880; occupies traditional stone-built Victorian single-storey building; facilities include walled outdoor play area, nine classrooms, a gym/dining room, multi-purpose play area, and large playing areas to rear of the main building. Recently upgraded, with addition of three new classrooms; purpose-built nursery class with covered decking to allow access to the outdoors at all times of year. All P7 pupils have opportunity to attend residential outdoor education experience. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities including football and netball teams (which compete in local league and cup competitions), swimming, volleyball, new-image rugby and badminton. Good community links; facilities are used by organisations such as Guides, Brownies parent-teacher association, and community education outside school hours. Holds a Youth Parliament once a year, which aims to promote active citizenship and raise the political awareness of young people. After-school care, until 5.45pm.
